Frequently asked questions

How is My English Friends different?

Why should I book with My English Friends instead of a language school?
We offer a full immersion ‘homestay’ programme, not just English classes. You live with your teacher, take your meals with your teacher and receive three hours’ one to one tuition five days a week. You speak English all day, not only in  lessons; you spend your time with native English speakers, not other foreign language students (who make mistakes!). You also enjoy outings and social events included in the price. Our intensive programmes are the best and fastest way to improve your English.

Is My English Friends more expensive than a conventional language school?
Language schools charge on average £200 a week for 20 hours of English lessons in large classes, with little opportunity for you to speak. Private lessons are between £40 and £60 an hour (average £750 a week for 15 hours). If you go to a language school, your accommodation with a host family with two meals a day costs on average £150. All additional meals, excursions and social activities are charged extra. We charge only £890 a week for: 15 hours’ private, one to one lessons a week, all your meals, accommodation, outings and social events, so I think you will agree this is very good value for money!

How do I get there?
You are responsible for booking your own travel. The closest airports are Gatwick and Heathrow. Gatwick is only half an hour from Brighton by train or coach. Heathrow is further, but the coach is an easy way to travel to Brighton. We shall meet you either at Brighton railway station, or at the coach station. If you would like us to meet you at the airport, please ask us about transfer fees. Please contact us if you need more information about your trip.

What is included in the price?
Our host teachers all have comfortable houses in good locations. If you would like to see photographs, please ask us. You have your own study bedroom with sheets and towels provided. Some of our teachers offer private bathrooms which are charged extra*. All your meals are included (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
*Please see our prices page for details of additional charges.
