My job is to make sure you are getting the right support and guidance to improve your English. For the last eight years I have also been a professional Blue Badge Guide and I have an in-depth knowledge of London and other parts of the UK.
I will be involved in taking you on excursions to many of the most interesting places in London and around Brighton. But there is nothing I like better than socialising with friends whom you will meet so that your experience in England is truly English!

As one of the other co-founders of My English Friends, I have taught in the UK and abroad at all levels and to all nationalities. When you book with us, I will help you choose the most suitable teacher and support you all the way, from booking to your arrival. I will make sure you are happy and well looked after while you are with us, staying with welcoming hosts in a comfortable home. I personally visit each house and ensure that the accommodation is suitable. Having travelled extensively, I know how important it is to find kind, friendly people when you are away from home.
My hobbies? I love cinema, eating out, reading books, keeping fit (yoga, Pilates), travelling, gardening, dancing, and music of all kinds. But most of all I like spending time with my friends and family and I enjoy meeting people from other countries and introducing them to new experiences and places.
As Teacher Support Co-ordinator, I am responsible for selecting, interviewing and supporting our teachers, and ensuring that standards of teaching are maintained at a highly professional level. We rigorously check all qualifications and make sure our clients have the best possible experience.
I moved to Brighton from London over two decades ago, attracted by the sea views and the accessibility to the countryside. Keen on local history and keeping fit, I go for daily walks with my two dogs across the South Downs, which are dotted with picturesque, traditional villages full of charm and character.
My interests include playing the piano, current affairs, growing my own vegetables and, of course, teaching. I try to be original and fresh in my approach whether I am teaching vocabulary, pronunciation, travel and tourism or English through history. Meeting people from other countries helps me to keep informed and cultural exchange is a rewarding and memorable experience.
TEFL Diploma (Distinction)
Certificate in Education
I have a wealth of experience teaching English to adults of all nationalities. I spent over twenty years teaching in multinational schools in Kenya and since returning to England, have been teaching adults for the last fifteen years.
Being a passionate traveller, teaching English has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to meet interesting people from different cultures. I’m an avid reader, love music, yoga, theatre and walking in the beautiful countryside around Brighton. Brighton is a vibrant and diverse city and I’m looking forward to sharing it with my foreign friends. What better way to become more confident using the English language than to spend your time speaking and listening to native speakers?
RSA Certificate TEFLA
I grew up in Brighton and then lived in London, Athens and France (Paris, Aix en Provence and Marseilles) before returning to my home town at the age of 30.
I first qualified as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language in 1988 and have been teaching French as well as English since 1995. As well as working with My English Friends, I also work at a local college where I manage a small language learning centre for international and A level language students.
I really enjoy helping students identify how they learn most effectively, giving guidance in study skills, exam techniques and boosting their confidence generally.
We enjoy hosting international students and introducing them to life in Brighton. I have 2 teenage girls and love all that Brighton has to offer, especially the seaside and cycling on the Downs.
BA (Hons) French and German Education (First)
RSA Preparatory Certificate in TEFL (CELTA equivalent)
RGN (Registered General Nurse)
I have some twenty years’ experience in teaching English, having started out in Kenya, producing comedy shows to liven up the messages of primary health care programmes in refugee camps.
Since then I have taught General English, English for air traffic controllers, to teenagers on apprenticeships, English for business and academic purposes, and exam preparation for Cambridge IELTs, FCE and CAE.
The most important thing to me is the student – finding out what they want and need to make their stay a positive and productive experience. I like using a range of mixed media and stimuli to make new language memorable, relevant and entertaining to use.
I enjoy exploring our beautiful city of Brighton and Hove with visitors, sharing recipes then swapping stories over delicious food, and learning about each others’ cultures. My pastimes include playing tennis, watching films and walking my dog on the seafront.

Originally from Scotland, I have been working as a teacher of English for over 30 years.
My work has taken me to many places around the world including Tokyo, Singapore, New York, and Prague and I have had the opportunity to meet and befriend people from a range of different backgrounds and cultures. Such experiences have certainly enriched my life and I hope I bring some of this into my teaching.
As well as working for My English Friends, I also work as an examiner for Trinity College London and the University of Cambridge, both in England and overseas, in places such as Italy, Spain, South America and India. I have taught and examined people of all ages and levels from 7 to 70 and beginner to proficiency.

I have many years’ experience and love teaching people of all ages and abilities. I have hosted lots of students over the years and have had excellent reviews. As well as English lessons you will have plenty of opportunity to speak with me, my family and my friends. I enjoy cooking, walking and exercising! I also like exploring, cycling, swimming (sometimes in the sea) and going to the cinema or the theatre.
I live with my family in a spacious, traditional house in Seaford. My husband and two grown up sons (both in their twenties) live with me. Seaford is a small, coastal town between Brighton and Eastbourne. There are excellent links to London and lots of interesting places nearby – and the countryside is really beautiful. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our home!

I live in a lively home with three beautiful children in the lovely East Sussex countryside. Our home borders farm land and although we are surrounded by lovely walks and countryside, we are only 5 miles from the exciting seaside action of Brighton. We recently moved from an organic farm in South Africa where we used to host foreign students and we love sharing our lives with new friends and cultures.
I have been a drama teacher for 8 years and love teaching in new and creative ways. I enjoy teaching students in the relaxed environment of our home. We grow some of our own vegetables and love going for walks and exploring historic castles and quaint English villages as well as relaxing at home watching movies and reading.

I am a qualified teacher with twenty years’ experience of teaching in England and abroad. I have recently returned from living and teaching in Spain. Every week I attend a Spanish class so I know exactly what it feels like to learn a language! I think you need lots of repetition, an enthusiastic teacher and a chance to make lots of mistakes. My wife has also taught English and my daughter is always happy to talk to you; so you will get a chance to speak English to several people without even stepping outside the house.
I am passionate about literature, theatre, dance and art. (I was a professional dancer for some years). My wife is a music graduate and my daughter is studying film – quite an artistic household! I have a dog who makes everyone feel welcome and she loves being walked by the sea which is only two minutes away. We have hosted students for many years and they have always enjoyed staying with us.
